About Auz

Auz is an excellent dog from an exceptional litter. I owned a male (Eik vom Felsengebirge) from Cal Bambrough's E-litter and was able to watch Auz's mother (Elli vom Felsengebirge) extensively as we trained together through VJP, HZP and VGP. My favorite quality about this line is the calmness and cooperation. They are easy to train, calm around the house and all business in the field! I truly believe that these guys are breeding the type of dogs that VDD is intended to produce.

The A vom Barenwald litter produced 7 pups. All 7 were tested in VJP with scores ranging from 65 to 75. Five went on to pass the Armbruster with scores between 202.5 and 227. Four of us are planning on running the VGP this fall.

Auz has always been a strong pointer. I have shot many birds over him this season, he is definitely earning his keep! The Barenwald A-litter has got some wheels! If you're walking they're hunting! Auz turned on a little slower than the rest but now that we are hunting, I couldn't ask for anything more. He will push out to a couple hundred yards in the hills hunting Sharptail or Chukar and will shorten up in tight cover. We just got back from North Dakota where we spent a lot of time in the sunflowers with the 3 Barenwald males. We were very pleased how well they stayed in contact with their handlers which was a must to be successful!

We had all the Barenwald pups swimming very early and they all love the water. Auz had a really neat duck retrieve a few weeks ago in Idaho. We were pheasant hunting and had a mallard jump off the river. I winged the duck and it coasted towards the other side and scrambled up the bank. I sent Auz on the blind and he swam the 80 yards across the river and picked up the track on the other side. 50 yards later through the thick weeds he recovered the duck and promptly brought it back. My brother-in-law was quite impressed. So was I, even though I knew it was all in a days work for a Drahthaar!

Auz continues to show me every day that he has an excellent nose. Cal has threatened to proclaim that his A vom Barenwald pup may have one of the best noses he has seen!

I have been asked several times what the dogs negatives or weaknesses are and had no idea how to answer. So I asked the same question to the rest of the A-litter owners and they couldn't think of any either! Except Nate Bailey would like an 11 coat instead of a 10! It is definitely unanimous that this was a very solid and consistent litter, now it is up to you to decide if Auz can help to improve the breed that we all love!

Thanks for looking! Mike
